Name: Aegis-37
Species: Exo
Class: Striker Titan
Affiliated Factions: Vanguard, New Monarchy
History:
Aegis-37 has been to a lot of different places, seen some amazing things, and punched most of it in the face in the time since his resurrection outside the walls of Old Russia. He's flushed Fallen from the crumbling skeletons of colony ships on Earth; He's braved the jungles and volcanoes of Venus and the freezing deserts of Mars; He's cracked Cabal tanks, shattered Vex transfer gates, and torn into the guts of Fallen Ketches; He's witnessed the inner workings of the Vault of Glass, pressed back the surge of Hive deep within the Hellmouth, and survived a visit or two to the Awoken of the Reef. Much to the dismay of some.
Destiny is a game where everyone gets to be their own hero, so Aegis's achievements are kept purposefully non-specific here for the sake of simplicity. It's assumed he survived his initial encounter with the Fallen after his resurrection and fought against the House of Devils before settling in as a Guardian in the Tower, making his name in fireteams or alone on patrol.
Personality:
"At close quarters a fist is better than any gun."
As an Exo Titan, Aegis-37 might be expected to personify the very idea of relentless, inexhaustible war and violence. After all, were the Exos not specifically built to dole out brutal punishment against Humanity's enemies? On the battlefield this is certainly true. Aegis-37 fights with a tireless zeal and it's easy to see that he honestly enjoys what he does. To him, there's no greater thrill than crashing against the lines of his foes in a flurry of fists and lightning and bullets. The greater the carnage left behind in the aftermath, the better he feels. He knows his place in battle, he would say; Exos fight, it's what they do and he's glad to live up to that legacy.
His energy and power lend themselves to the Striker class and it's where he prefers to spend most of his battles. The crackle of Arc energy around his fist, the cleansing flash of blue-white electricity that fills up whole rooms each time he slams into the ground- it's a frenetic power that he thrives on, often as vial as the next squeeze of the trigger on his autorifle. On the rare instances he finds himself needing to play the role of Defender, it's always on the front lines. He becomes the forward shield, using the sanctuary of the Ward of Dawn as an anchor instead of as a shelter, safe ports to launch the next attack from.
Always forward. A retreat is only a reassessment of the best and newest line of aggression.
"Ask yourself: what threatened your Golden Age ancestors so much that they constructed the Exos to defend themselves?"
For as at home as he feels on the battlefield, Aegis-37 knows that it's a double edged sword that no Exo can ever really escape. What does a war machine do when he is not fighting? Was there ever a plan? It's a quandary that lingers in the spaces between fields of war, although Aegis likes to think that maybe they were made so similar to their human brethren for that very reason. Perhaps they were expected to integrate when everything was over and his capacity to worry--to wonder and question, to be happy or sad or angry, all in equal measures--was all part of something better that got lost in the Collapse. He knows that's probably not the real answer, but it's the one he likes the best for now and he does his best to reconcile that hope against the possibility of a far more brutal reality.
Every Exo knows that death is at their core and for Aegis, the best way to find peace with that is to smash as hard as he can against the Darkness and hope that maybe it will be enough to satisfy whatever flawed heart was given to them at birth.
Still, despite the multitude of questions that remain unanswered, he feels a deep kinship with his fellow Exos. He is proud of who he is and who they are as a race and believes without a doubt that they can aspire to something greater than what they may or may not have been built for. He believes in the nobility of their design, what it was created to reflect, and wears the mark signifying their creation with pride; the sash is often treated better than his armor.
"Beneath crossed swords, a refuge for peace."
Not that any of these complex emotions are things that Aegis-37 feels at all equipped to actually articulate to anyone else. Some of it is the desire to keep his personal feelings to himself, but he also knows that he'd never be able to do any of it justice. His nature is short and direct, not something suited for noble speeches, or flowery lectures on the purpose of life. Who is he to wax poetic about such things? He breaks things with his fists.
But rather than agonize over it, he prefers to spend his energy on the minute to minute, whether on or off the battlefield. Easy when he's shoulder deep in a platoon of Cabal soldiers. Outside of the fight, he does his best to explore what it means to be a whole person and not just an instrument of war. Some may find him gruff and blunt, but he makes an effort to be honest about it at least. He doesn't have much patience for those who mince words or talk in secrets, Future War Cultists and most Warlocks generally given a respectable berth, Master Rahool's rambling tolerated for the sake of his usefulness. He prefers those he can have an honest conversation with, friends who understand that sometimes it doesn't have to be complicated.
And Aegis is an Exo with generally simply tastes. His friends will find him lighthearted and friendly, more open than the rough facade he can put on around others. Get him moving and he's happy. Share a good war story and you won't find a more attentive listener. He doesn't ask for much, although he has been known to joke that he's really some deep and complicated super machine... he just doesn't remember it yet. He's usually the first to poke fun at himself like that; that time he drove his sparrow off the cliff because he was paying more attention to the Fallen on the other side? You should've seen it. He was picking rocks and grass out of his joints for days. Always wear your helmet, Guardians.
"Strive for honor. Stand for hope."
Those who have won Aegis's loyalty will find it just as steadfast and unshakable as the Exo himself. He firmly believes in the Guardian's duty to protect others, no matter where they are, whether they live in the City or fight in the lands beyond. When they're under fire, his fellow Guardians are his brethren, regardless of species or affiliation. A Hunter in trouble will have his suppressing fire just as quickly as another Titan will. His fireteam members will find no one quicker to put themselves in the line of fire, no one more eager to reach out a helping hand to pick them up when they fall.
This is their duty. To fight. To defend. To protect. To push back against the forces that strive to smother the last of the Light. This is their fight and they are stronger together.

History:
"The stories tell of a golden age long ago, when our civilization spanned the system. It was a bright and hopeful time. But it didn't last.
Something hit us. Knocked us down and tried to stamp us out. No one knows exactly what, but we do know this: very few of us survived, and those that did owe their lives to The Traveler.
Legends say The Traveler sacrificed itself to save us. The mysterious sphere still hangs where it made its last stand, low above the Earth, keeping silent watch.
The years that followed the collapse of the golden age were hard, but slowly we joined together to build a city beneath The Traveler. And now we've begun to venture back into the wild, only to find that we're not alone. Strange and deadly creatures have occupied our old worlds. And they're pressing hard against The City, probing for a weakness, trying to stamp us out for good.
Your story begins at this moment of great adventure and peril. You are a Guardian of The City; a soldier able to wield some of The Traveler's incredible power. If you can find a way to save The City -- to reclaim all that we have lost -- you will become legend. If you fail, the last light of civilization will go out." -Destiny Wikipedia
